  • About this winery

The Delormes of Domaine de la Mordorée are a lovely family, committed to their terroir in the broadest possible sense. For them 'terroir' is not merely an expression of geology or geography: rather it is a concept that embraces the totality of life in the place where they live and everything about the way they conduct their lives in that place. They consider themselves to be 'guardiens' of the local ecology, which is why they farm biodynamically, and why they have chosen 'la Mordorée' as...

  • Tasting notes

This bright pink wine is elegantly complex with aromas of flowers, white fruits, red fruits, and mentholated notes. The finish is crisp and long.

    June 2018

Bold, intense and flavorful, the 2017 Tavel La Reine des Bois continues to set the standard for the appellation. It's a rich, full-bodied rosé, with lush, mouth-filling flavors of cherries, raspberries and white chocolate, underscored by lime zest and refreshing brine notes. The price is creeping up, but it remains a benchmark in terms of quality.

    August 2018

Brilliant orange-pink. Heady, mineral-accented raspberry, cherry and blood orange scents, joined by a suave floral accent that builds in the glass. Sappy and concentrated yet energetic as well, offering palate-staining red fruit, citrus zest and lavender pastille flavors and a hint of fennel. Shows real power and red-fruit-driven character on the finish, which hangs on with impressive tenacity. I'd look at this rich, weighty Tavel more as a light red wine than a pink wine and serve it accordingly, with full-flavored, strongly seasoned, earthy foods, perhaps even alongside grilled or braised red meat dishes.

    March 2019

While Grenache is dominant, this robust, full-bodied rosé is a blend of five traditional Rhône grapes. It's a complex wine boasting a core of concentrated raspberry and red-cherry flavors layered with sage, bramble and smoked meat. It's an excellent year-round accompaniment to light meals well through 2020.
