  • Tasting notes

Trimbach’s “classic” Gewurztraminer offers a model of restraint and refreshment that I can only wish more growers would emulate. Smelling of smoked meats, celery seed and sea breeze, it is positively bracing even before it hits the palate, where a certain oily richness does not equate to heaviness nor preclude vivacity. Celery root, peach, and smoked meats dominate the finish of this truly ripe, dry-tasting, yet only 13.5% stylistic statement.

The aromas are rather shy on the nose—there is just a mere floral whiff. The palate is dry and lets us see subtle varietal aromas: golden peach, a touch of honeysuckle spice, a hint of jasmine, aromatic orange zest. This is a restrained, streamlined and elegant varietal expression.

This is extremely rich and beautiful yet balanced and bright with spice, aniseed and dried orange. Full-bodied and flavorful. Delicious. All in balance. All the production of Trimbach's gewurz went into this.
