Olivier Humbrecht is one of the world's most renowned winegrowers. He is a Master of Wine and has been described by Robert Parker as the greatest white winemaker on earth. Yet he is very soft spoken, humble, and self-deprecating, which makes him perfectly suited to his assumed role as a global ambassador of wine. He is a champion of terroir, biodynamic farming principles, and non-interventionist winemaking, whose family have been winegrowers in Alsace for 12 generations (since 1620). He is...
Bottling date: 08/2015; Alcohol: 12.5° alc; Residual sweetness: 10.5 g/l; 4.0 g/l H2SO4, pH: 3.3; Yields: 19 hl/ha; Optimum drinking period: 2017-2029+; Average age of the vines: 29 years; Terroir: marl-calcareous, facing west. Indice 2. The Heimbourg vineyard is located on a small south-west to north-west facing little hill at the east of Turckheim. The top part, more exposed to the winds and with a thinner soil, is perfectly adapted to the Pinot-Gris grape. Not receiving the full intensity of the sun in the morning means also that this vineyard ripens the grape slower, slows down the apparition of botrytis and can keep a nice acidity balance. In 2014, it wasn’t possible to allow too much botrytis development. The fermentation was slow and eventually the wine finished fermenting with a small residual sweetness. This vineyard also produced a very small yield in 2014.

Love the walnut and spice character to this with dried-lemon and smoke undertones. Full-bodied and lightly sweet with lots of gorgeous fruit and a long, tangy finish. So much here. Made from biodynamically grown grapes.See detailed press review

Muscular, classic, slick.
This wine is muscular, it has the posture of a red wine.
There is a classic Alsatian Pinot Gris earthy/mushroomy character to this version, notes which are woven with golden fruits and quince paste. Slick in texture, it has notable weight and a very long tangy and citrusy finish to keep it bright and not brooding.
