  • About this winery

Olivier Humbrecht is one of the world's most renowned winegrowers. He is a Master of Wine and has been described by Robert Parker as the greatest white winemaker on earth. Yet he is very soft spoken, humble, and self-deprecating, which makes him perfectly suited to his assumed role as a global ambassador of wine. He is a champion of terroir, biodynamic farming principles, and non-interventionist winemaking, whose family have been winegrowers in Alsace for 12 generations (since 1620). He is...

    Ian D'Agata, April 2015

Bright yellow. Peach, lemongrass, mango, papaya and rose water on the pretty nose. Tactile and layered on the palate, with intense white stone fruit and ginger flavors lifted by a strong floral element. Impeccably balanced wine with a suave, extremely long finish. This was especially expressive when I originally tasted it from cask, showcasing the exotic tropical fruit aromas typical of the vineyard and the vintage in general, but it has shut down somewhat in bottle, which is also a characteristic of this wine.

    Stephan Reinhardt, October 2015

Picked two weeks later than Turckheim the yellow-golden colored 2012 Riesling Clos Windsbuhl was the last harvested Riesling in 2012. Picked with a touch of botrytis (less than 10%) it fermented very lazy and stopped with technically not really dry 11.5 grams per liter residual sweetness. Bottled in March 2015 the wine shows a very elegant, super ripe and very intense yet pure, precise and highly elegant bouquet of sweet cherries, lemon chutney and some hints of lemon oil. Rich and piquant on the palate, and provided with a pronounced acidity and penetrating mineral Muschelkalk character that absorbs the sweetness extremely well. The 2012 Clos Windsbuhl is indeed a dry and mineral tasting Riesling with a rich, round texture and a very elegant finish of very persistent salinity. There is also a great finesse in this wine, which should be stored for another three or 23 years.
