  • About this winery

Roberto de la Mota is one of Argentina's most respected and admired winemakers. His long career in wine began when he was just 19, working with his renowned father Raul, who made wine at Bodega Weinert for 20 years (at the time Robert Parker declared that Weinert was making 'the most profound red wine in South America'). After studying Viticulture and Winemaking at the University of Montpellier Roberto made wine at Moet + Chandon's Terrazas de los Andes, then created Cheval des Andes with...

    May 2018

Made with the 337 Bordeaux clone, this varietal Cabernet Sauvignon comes from a vineyard that’s close to the river Mendoza on well-drained soils. It’s a beautifully judged red from one of the best exponents of the variety in Argentina: elegant, refined and polished with granular tannins.

    June 2018

The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon was sourced from their Finca Los Andes vineyard planted ungrafted in Perdriel in 1998 at 1,050 meters in altitude. It was harvested during the second half of April in a cooler and wetter year. Like the Malbec, it fermented in small stainless steel tanks and aged in French barriques for one year. It was bottled in October 2017. This 2016 is spicy and fresh, not a style of concentrated and tannic Cabernet, more elegant than structured. According to Roberto de la Mota, the character comes from clone 337, which is the one used to plant this vineyard. There is good definition, and it's clean. Even if the year was very rainy, it was also cold and had less of a problem with botrytis.

    July 2018

(14.2% alcohol; from vines on very dry, stony soil on the right bank of Mendoza River, at 3,500 feet, which Roberto de la Mota emphasized is very different from clay soil in Agrelo; aged in one-third new, one-third once-used and one-third twice-used French oak barrels from Taransaud; the yield here was a bit lower than average): Dark ruby. Vibrant nose combines cassis, blackberry, bitter chocolate, violet and minerals. Quite dry and tightly wound; more savory and backward than the '15, conveying a strong soil-driven rocky character. This classic Cabernet is distinctly folded in on itself and needs cellaring. It may yet merit an even higher rating.
