  • About this winery

Olivier Humbrecht is one of the world's most renowned winegrowers. He is a Master of Wine and has been described by Robert Parker as the greatest white winemaker on earth. Yet he is very soft spoken, humble, and self-deprecating, which makes him perfectly suited to his assumed role as a global ambassador of wine. He is a champion of terroir, biodynamic farming principles, and non-interventionist winemaking, whose family have been winegrowers in Alsace for 12 generations (since 1620). He is...

  • Viticultural notes

It seems that both the Auxerrois (35%) and Chardonnay (65%) grapes decided to have a break after two generous vintages. The stony Muschelkalk (seashell limestone) soil of the Windsbuhl produced lower yields in 2013, packing this Zind wine with lots of character and zesty acidity. The consequence was a long fermentation and we feared that it would keep some significant residual sweetness. However, having been able to harvest the grapes at perfect desired ripeness and very healthy, the wild yeast managed to ferment the wine dry.

    September 2015

A beautiful wine with sliced lemon and green apple. Full-bodied and round with bright acidity. Fruity and flavorful. Lovely texture. Creamy. A blend of chardonnay, auxerrois and pinot blanc. The style of new Alsace in one. Made from biodynamically grown grapes.

    November 2015

Ripe fruit, graphite and spice notes herald this bright and aromatic white, with laserlike acidity and a rich mineral character defining the flavors of steeped peach, chamomile, spun honey and star fruit. Offers a long, creamy finish. Chardonnay and Auxerrois.

    Stephan Reinhardt, October 2015

2/3 Chardonnay and 1/3 Auxerrois from the Clos Windsbuhl blend, the 2013 Vin de Table Zind is a serious and characterful white from seashell limestone (Muschelkalk) with characteristic smoky citrus flavors on the nose and a thrilling, really electrifying mineral acidity on the palate. Pure, piquant and also complex on the palate, this medium-powerful but extremely drinkable wine is an ambitious Best Buy and the best entrance into the Zind-world I can imagine. Super salty aftertaste, stimulating as if it were a Blanc de Blancs Champagne from a top terroir -- which is the case here.

    Anne Krebiehl MW, August 2016

The nose is like pear juice spilled onto warm earth, while the palate is more citrusfocused. A seam of almost tropical acidity links lemon to notes of pineapple, lifted by joyful freshness.
