NC is a wine with a decisive, full-bodied character, smooth tannins and a persistent finish. This blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah and Sangiovese reveals an exciting potency, with the innate gentleness of Merlot creating a bridge between the evident earthiness of Sangiovese, the aromatic blackcurrant flavour of Cabernet and the warm red berries of Syrah. The result is a generous, rounded red wine, destined for short to medium ageing, with delicious aromas of currants and generous fruit flavours, versatile enough to develop in greater depth during long months in the bottle.
Argiano’s vineyards are blessed with a fortunate microclimate and enviable position both of which contribute to favourable development of the grapes. The extended vegetative cycle and maturation period are due to the 300m above see level plateau thus creating cool nights in the summer months. The moderate rainfall in general of Montalcino promotes a better and healthier ripening period, bringing more concentration and flavours to the wine. This combined with the constant and warm winds from the Maremma that cool down the grapes during the hottest days of summer enables a slower ripening period rendering all over favourable conditions. Last but not the least, the close proximity of Argiano to Monte Amiata, one of Tuscany’s highest peak that shelters the whole area from bad weather. Consequently, all factors combined enable Argiano to produce year after year high profile wines and consistently good vintages.
The grape harvest usually begins in the middle of September, when the Syrah and Merlot are picked, and is completed at the beginning of October, with the Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon. Each of the four different grape-varieties used in the blend – Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah – are fermented separately in order to preserve their individual characteristics. Before blending, the wine is aged for a short period of time in French oak barriques which have already been used once before, in the traditional large Slavonian oak barrels and in stainless steel tanks, to soften the tannins and harmonise the different flavours of each grape-variety.

Opaque, textural, opulent.
This bold Tuscan blend NC Non Confunditor means unique/unmistakable. It is a Super Tuscan blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah and Sangiovese grown in high vineyards with cool nights. The varieties are fermented separately and aged briefly in French barriques, tank and larger format Slovonian oak before bottling.
Deeply opaque, it offers fresh yet opulent aromas of forest berries, mocha, saddle leather and plumcake, spices and wild herbal undertones. The palate is textural with sweet tannins and flavours of sunwarmed berries, dark chocolate, espresso anise and pipe tobacco. It has a glycerol weight and texture, and boasts a long finish trailing tealeaf flavours.

Argiano's 2013 Non Confunditur is Cabernet Sauvignon with Merlot and Sangiovese. The wine opens to a dark ruby color and a rich, velvety appearance. This is a very attractive blended red from Tuscany because it doesn't show the cloying heaviness or dense extraction you get with many of the other protagonists in the super Tuscan category. In fact, Non Confunditur is approachable and fresh with a good level of crisp acidity that would pair next to lasagna or pici pasta with wild boar sauce.See detailed press review

Non Confunditur or “do not be mistaken or confused” is one of those rare welcoming, accessible and interesting youthful Super Tuscans. A shorter aging period (and no petit verdot) is what gives NC its baby-brother status next to the famed, Super Tuscan Solengo. In 2013 the mix is 40/20/20/20 cabernet sauvignon, merlot, syrah and sangiovese grown on a 300m plateau and fermented separately before spending time in a mix of French oak barriques, large Slavonian oak and stainless steel. A powerful vintage with big concentration. Soft and worn leather, dusky dark florals, blackcurrant and earthy thorns fill the voluminous palate, one kept buoyant with an easy swell of acidity and hemmed by ample tuggy tannins. A cut of roasted coffee bitterness on the finish tightens the whole up again and helps counter the 14.5 alcohol. Drinking well now with rabbit and polenta.
