Wine Advocate on DOMAINE DE LA MORDORÉE

Titre

Since the untimely death of Christophe Delorme last year, the winemaking at Domaine de la Mordorée has fallen to Rémy Chauvet, who was the cellar manager under Christophe for a number of years. Based on these 2015 barrel samples, the estate is obviously still in incredibly capable hands.

Vivid orange-pink. Pungent red berry, cherry and orange zest aromas are accompanied by hints of anise and lavender. Chewy and focused on the palate, offering bitter cherry and strawberry flavors supported by a spine of juicy acidity. Smoothly blends power and finesse and finishes very long and flora; a subtle mineral flourish adds lift and cut.

International Wine Report, November 2016

The 2014 'Reine des Bois' is a fantastic showing in this vintage. This is composed of 80% Grenache along with 10% Mourvèdre, 5% Syrah, 2.5% Vaccarese, 2.5% Counoise, sourced from 60-year-old vines planted to galets roulés and red sand soils. As it begins to open it releases wonderful aromatics of black raspberries and ripe plums along with spices, violets, chocolate shavings, smoke, rosemary and a lovely underlying savory character all taking shape. On the palate this continues to impress with its remarkable round, velvety texture and fantastic overall depth and concentration. The flavors of ripe black fruits and spices continue to expand seamlessly on to the finish where they linger on. While this is already quite impressive, I expect it to evolve further over the next decade and beyond.
