On the nose, this wine shows notes of white flowers and honey, also some herbal notes and tropical fruits. The oak ageing makes the wines more complex, lending coconut and hints of smoke, as well as big volume and softness in the mouth. A complex, elegant and agreeable wine.

Consistently one of my favourite Argentinean whites, this partially wooded Semillon comes from a 68-year-old parcel in Paraje Altamira. Herbal, elegant and beeswaxy, with subtle citrus peel notes, it’s a wine that’s well worth cellaring.

It’s well worth trading up from Lunta, however good it is, to this, more serious Malbec. It’s a compact, dense, sweetly fruited red with a backbone of tannin and acidity and stylishly judged oak. Has the concentration to age for a while yet.

About MENDEL

MENDEL

Recognized as a "First Growth" in Tim Atkin's (MW) ranking of Argentina's greatest producers, Mendel produces brilliant Malbec, Malbec blends, Cabernet Sauvignon and Semillon from old vines in Mayor Drummond, Luján de Cuyo and Perdriel. The wines can be enjoyed now for their luscious fruit, or allowed to mellow for many years in the classic Argentine tradition, to be savoured in the full glory of maturity.
