Vinous on ANTHILL FARMS

Titre

This is another strong set of wines from Anthill Farms. Low yields are the theme of the 2015 vintage here, as they are pretty much everywhere. Pinot Noir was hit the hardest. Yields were down in Syrah as well, but not as dramatically as in Pinot because weather during the Syrah flowering was more stable. The Anthill wines all see a good bit of whole clusters in fermentation (30-50%) and are handled minimally in the cellar. Because of that, the wines can sometimes be a bit cloudy in the bottle. These wines are gorgeous expressions of some of the top vineyard sites in Sonoma and Mendocino Counties.
Antonio Galloni, March 2017

Antonio Galloni, March 2017

The 2015 Pinot Noir Comptche Ridge Vineyard is one of the most complete of these wines. Fresh, vibrant and nuanced, the 2015 possesses striking energy. Veins of supporting salinity give Comptche Ridge its signature energy and tension. Often one of the more intriguing wines in the range, the Comtpche Ridge is once again terrific.

Vinous, March 2017

The 2015 Pinot Noir Campbell Ranch Vineyard is another very tightly wound, compact wine. It will be interesting to see if the 2015 fleshes out with more time in bottle. Today, it is a bit lean and unexpressive. Still, there is a good bit of energy and overall character coming through.

About ANTHILL FARMS

ANTHILL FARMS

It all began with three young men, all Pinot lovers in their own right. They all met on the job, at the great Williams Selyem winery. What eventually ensued were great friendships, and the decision for three Californians - Dave Low, Webster Marquez and Anthony Filiberti to branch out on their own. Anthill Farms wines are on the cutting edge of cool-climate non-interventionist wine-growing in California.
