Wine Advocate on ARGIANO

Titre

Argiano is one of the most important estates in Montalcino. It is located in the southwest quadrant and sees most of its vineyards at 300 meters above sea level, on a flat plateau with beautiful views and a protected microclimate. The Amiata mountain in the distance blocks much of the incoming bad weather... Since 2014, there have been many important changes at Argiano. A new underground winery is complete and is used solely for the production of top wines Solengo and Brunello di Montalcino. The Sangiovese aging regime has moved from French barrique to large oak casks. The estate recently added seven new hectares of Sangiovese, planted according to a strict mapping of micro zones. Argiano started organic farming in 2012 and earned its certificate [in 2016].

Sangiovese grapes are usually harvested between the end of September and the middle of October, depending on the type of soil, the exposure of the vineyards and the climatic trend. The must is allowed to ferment in contact with the skins in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks for two or three weeks. The fermentation time varies from one tank to another, depending on the vineyards where the grapes are grown.

Fantastic aromas of orange peel and dark berry with plenty of plum and cherry. Sweet tobacco and mushrooms. Full body, juicy and fruity with firm tannins and a fresh finish. Complex and gorgeous. Fine and very long.

Wine Advocate, December 2017

Argiano has produced an impressive wine in a challenging vintage. The 2014 Solengo is a celebrated blend of Cabernet Sauvignon with Petit Verdot, Syrah and Merlot. The wine pours from the bottle with beautiful, dark intensity. The aromas rev up with slow and careful momentum to exhibit more dark fruit, dried cherry, spice, tobacco, grilled herb and freshly ground coffee. Solengo shows dark concentration, full body and expertly managed tannins.
