Wine Advocate on L'ECOLE NO. 41

Titre

Winemakers Marty Clubb and Mike Sharon (Mike joined the estate in 2006) continue to keep this Walla Walla based estate firing on all cylinders, and they’re a great reference point for the State of Washington. This report focused on their 2014s, and the lineup is stacked with quality and value.

I loved the 2014 Columbia Valley Syrah (there’s 20% Grenache in the blend) from this estate and it's a great value. Blueberry, pepper, crushed rock and plenty of spice all give way to a rich, textured, flavorful red that's ideal for drinking anytime over the coming 4-5 years, if not longer.

Wine Enthusiast, September 2017

This wine is 100% Cabernet, coming from Seven Hills, Loess, Summit View, Yellow Jacket, Stone Valley, Ferguson and Pepper Bridge vineyards. Locked-up aromas of barrel spice, toast, herb, vanilla and dark fruit give way to rich but well balanced black-fruit flavors. Lightly grainy tannins offer sufficient support.

Wine Advocate, June 2017

My favorite of the three special cuvees, the 2014 Ferguson checks in as a blend of 56% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc and 6% Malbec. It knocks it out of the park with its dark, savory, mineral-laced fruit and is full-bodied, deep, rich and concentrated on the palate. This beautiful wine has building structure and ripe tannin, and it’s going to have two decades or more of longevity.
