  • About this winery

Francis Ford Coppola has a long family history with wine making. He was first exposed to the wine making process while growing up in New York. During this time, his grandfather and uncles would make wine in the basement of their apartment using the grapes that they had shipped in from California. • Tasting notes

This vintage exhibits aromas of wild berries, cherries, and allspice. It is purple magenta in appearance with tasting notes of strawberries, blackberries, plums, oak, and pepper.

  • Viticultural notes

The 2011 Diamond Zinfandel experienced chilly spring temperatures and a heavy rainfall that reduced overall crop size. Harvest was delayed by several weeks while waiting for a late, warm fall to arrive. This allowed for extra hang-time that created grapes with wonderfully concentrated flavors, alluring spice notes, and a full bodied texture.

  • Winemaking notes

The Diamond Collection Zinfandel was crafted by blending fruit from different appellations, clone selections, soil types, and cultivation methods. Fruit for this blend was sourced from both hot and cool climate, Paso Robles, and from gravely clay loam soils similar to Australia’s Barossa Valley. Sonoma County fruit was also used. This combination of Zinfandel mixed with a small amount of Petite Sirah, perfectly balanced the wine’s jammy nature with added structure. This helped to achieve a wine of greater complexity and character.
