  • About this winery

The long history of the Montresor family boasts illustrious ancestors, like the Count Claude de Montresor, the prime counsellor of Duke D'Orleans in France in 1600 (his writings, "Memoirs", dating back to 1663, are considered of great interest). At the beginning of 19th century a branch of the family moved to Italy in the Veneto region near the lake of Garda, an area renowned for its morain soils: here they found the proper environment where to continue and improve one of the main activities of...

  • Tasting notes

Deep ruby red colour with pomegranate reflections, ethereal nose which reminds of peach blossoms, violet, raspberry and mint. On the palate it is intense, refined; it displays full body and smoothness, with clear notes of dried grapes. Ideal with spicy dishes, game and seasoned cheeses. Excellent with parmesan cheese. GEtheral nose of peach blossoms, violet, raspberry and mint. On the palate, it is intense and refined. Full-bodied and smooth with clear notes of dried grapes. Ideal with spicy dishes, game and seasoned cheeses. Excellent with parmesan cheese. Serve at room temperature (20° C) and uncork the bottle two hours in prior to drinking if possible.

  • Viticultural notes

The classic area of the Valpolicella(North-West of Verona) which includes the five traditional villages of Negrar, Marano, S.Pietro in Cariano and Fumane.

  • Winemaking notes

Traditional vinification was used when creating this Amarone. The harvest was late and the grapes were left to dry until February, when they were then crushed. The must fermented in stainless steel for 4 months and the wine was aged in Slavonian oak casks and French small barrels for 3 years. Once bottled, it rested for 6 months prior to release.

    Natalie Maclean, December 2015

Black cherry liqueur and dark spice on the nose and palate of this attractive Italian Amarone. Made using the traditional method of appassimento: dry the grapes before fermentation to concentrate their flavours and the body of the wine. Pair with roast beef.

    Steve Thurlow, August 2015

This is a lighter style of Amarone with a smoky floral red cherry nose with oak spice and herbal tones. It is mid-weight and well balanced and very rich with the cherry fruit persisting well on the finish. Very good length. Try with meaty pasta sauces or grilled sausages. Last tasted August 2015 during WWAC15.
