  • About this winery

Olivier Humbrecht is one of the world's most renowned winegrowers. He is a Master of Wine and has been described by Robert Parker as the greatest white winemaker on earth. Zind-Humbrecht’s 2008 Gewurztraminer Herrenweg de Turckheim Vieilles Vignes is analytically scarcely different from its non-V.V. counterpart years, save for even higher acidity. Mushroom, candied white grapefruit rind, mint, chamomile, lavender, and black tea in the nose set the themes for another of this collection’s complex palate performances remarkably able to balance its high sugar without becoming cloying. Glycerin-rich and soothing while at the same time cooling and even subtly refreshing, this finishes with bittersweetly herbal and pungently smoky as well as nobly sweet persistence. It ought to perform well for at least 12-15 years.

    Stephen Tanzer, November 2010

Medium gold. More exotic on the nose than the regular Herrenweg, offering scents of orange marmalade, rose oil and peppermint. Deeper, richer, more opulent; really fills the mouth with high-toned spices. Strong framing acidity gives this wine a more obvious structure than the regular Herrenweg, but fans of fresh-fruity gew urztraminers may prefer that bottling.
